The Little Nell Debuts Renovated VIP Suites in Aspen

Just when you thought The Little Nell couldn't get any more luxurious, Aspen's only five-star, five-diamond resort has revealed a $5 million renovation of its six V.I.P. suites. Curbed Ski got the inside scoop on these fancy designer digs which debuted just in time for spring skiing.

High on our list of the essential hotels in ski country, the Nell's standard guestrooms (which are anything but standard) were made over in 2009 and the infamous living room received an update in 2011. The internationally renowned and Chicago-based design firm HOLLY HUNT is the creative force behind the trio of projects. Personally commissioned by Aspen Skiing Co. owner Paula Crown – who is a friend of Hunt's and whose family shares Chicago roots with the designer – the remodel is the designer's first and only hotel project.

Neil Zuleta, Director of Interiors for HOLLY HUNT and the lead on The Little Nell project over the past several years, says, "We strive for all of our designs to be approachable, but always keeping in mind the foundation of who we are – high quality, high end and high luxury. And we feel that the spirit of Aspen embodies that as well – casual yet extravagant."

The company is all about their discriminating clientele, creating completely custom made furniture, lighting, rugs and even leathers. "We didn't want to just have one look and feel across all of the rooms, which was something Holly and I kept as a focus. So we went with three clear styles: modern, traditional and transitional, using natural elements from the hotel's surroundings throughout."

Guests can expect one-of-a kind pieces complemented with opulent materials from the HOLLY HUNT collection like rich silks, heavy wool, raw stone and bold metal. "Our hope is that the textures and materials enrich the each guest's experience. We want them to touch and feel all of the different surfaces – and even wrap themselves in the plush accessories to make them feel at home."

Two of the six suites are currently available for booking with the remaining four slated for completion by early June. Added bonus: guests spending three or more nights in any of the suites (both old and new) through the end of the 2013/2014 season receive a complimentary all-day private lesson or ski/snowboard guide for up to five guests.
