Modern architect Richard Neutra, known for merging architecture with its surroundings, got his start with the Jardinette Apartments, a 1927 building in Los Angeles originally intended to house the city's growing population of movie stars. In honor of Neutra Earth Day, which LA will celebrate this Sunday, Curbed National explores the history of the Jardinette Apartments, a building quickly celebrated as creating "a new harmony of life and contentment." These days, that harmony is hard to see: the building is now painted salmon and green, with sections of white paint, and has been renamed after the street on which it stands. [Curbed National]
