For more than a decade, officials in Goshen, N.Y., have been threatening to demolish its government center, a monolith designed by SoCal architectural legend Paul Rudolph. And now, a beacon of light: prolific (and locally despised) NYC architect Gene Kaufman has offered to buy the building—provided that he's allowed to convert it for private use and build his own government center next door.
