While the mere suggestion of updating a Joseph Eichler home can send the hoards of super fans into a tizzy, this sparkling, renovated property in Burlingame, Calif., looks more contemporary, sure, but not completely unrecognizable. Restored in collaboration between California-based firm Klopf Architecture and the couple who currently own the place, the shared goal was to create a clean and airy place that the family of five "could live in forever."
Updates mainly involved taking down walls and adding large windows to open up the main family room. The firm also went to work "upgrading systems to be more efficient" in the kitchen, bathrooms, closets, and laundry room. As for the decor, the owners brought in pieces from their personal collections of midcentury modern furniture pieces and original art.
