Utterly Overhauled Victorian in Aspen Wants $8.9M

New, 12 comments

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.

Location: Aspen, Colo.
Price: $8,900,000
The Skinny: Considering the listing uses the word "historic" or "historical" thrice in its rather brief description, this estate in Aspen's quiet, amply-monied West End district—a neighborhood where having a stream running through your property is about as common as a driveway—lacks much of what one would associate with the Victorian era its boasting. That's probably because of all the "very contemporary detailing" the architects at One Friday gave it in 2007—things like shiny white sloped ceilings, drippy pendant lighting, and glass stairwell. In all it's fairly typical for the area: gorgeous interiors, pristine wooded landscaping, and enough historic pedigree to have yourself a good brag without the risk of owning a home with any shred of personality. All snark aside, the five-bedroom, asking $8.9M, is beautiful enough to have won a Design Excellence Award from the City of Aspen Historical Preservation Commission and looks like it has some pretty killer views.
