Breaking: Heavy Snow Means Early Opening for Valle Nevado

We reported yesterday that Ski Portillo would be turning on the lifts June 21, and it looks like early season snowfall will also allow Chile's largest ski area, Valle Nevado, to open two weeks ahead of schedule. Forecasters have predicted a favorable El Niño weather pattern for the southern hemisphere this season, and already Valle Nevado has received over three feet of snow, allowing the resort to open this Friday, June 13. And although hotels will remained closed until June 27, most trails, select restaurants, and other services will be open for day skiers and those lodging in condos. American skiers jonesing for some powder should seriously consider buying the Mountain Collective Pass for 2014-2015. It gets you two free tickets to Valle Nevado's 2014 season, discounts for subsequent tickets, and then still offers skiing at Alta Snowbird, Aspen/Snowmass, Jackson Hole, Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows, Whistler/Blackcomb, and Mammoth Mountain this winter.
