Enormous Private Island Estate in Montana Asks $59.5 M

New, 3 comments

Donald G. Abbey is known for having some of the most expensive properties in America, but his Montana retreat on Flathead Lake is now a bargain at only $59,500,000. Listed at $105 million when it first came on the market a few years back, Abbey reduced the price to $78 million, then $68 million in February 2014. The island property has over 32,000 square feet of living space, including a massive 24,000 square foot main house sided in Indiana limestone and decked out with African mahogany and Italian marble. Located within 40 minutes of skiing at Blacktail Mountain ski area and next to Glacier National Park, the compound boasts enough amenities to satisfy any discerning billionaire. Who doesn't need 10,000 square feet of heated porticos, a copper conservatory, and a 120-inch custom television? Alas, the right buyer seems elusive, even with the home's ground floor heated boat stall that functions as the ultimate boat garage. Maybe after this most recent price cut this lonely megamansion will finally find its one and only.
