Recognized by the Houston AIA in 2013, this circa-1963 retreat in Lago Vista, Texas was renovated in 2009 by the Houston-based Lantz Full Circle. The listing verbiage goes bananas for this 1,500-square-foot "AMAZING MCM," especially for the "MOD kitchen" and the "exterior SWINGS" under the ironwood deck, though the real highlight here is the deck itself, which measures 800 square feet, is equipped with four "custom globe light fixtures" (the same kind as in the carport), and appears to have a pretty amazing view of Lake Travis. By LFC's account, the home was "destined for the landfill" when they came upon it, so they added the terrace, removed a "poorly constructed addition," brought in new full-heigh windows, liberated some inefficiently used attic space, and restored the retaining walls and patios with limestone harvested on site. Each of the bedrooms is given its own theme and name (the Grotto, Stone, and Bamboo suites), as if this were a chipper little roadside motel. Listed for $549K, the Hive Lakeside Retreat also comes with clerestory windows, walls of glass in living room, exposed beams, custom walnut cabinets, and a "grotto" and "bamboo grove" on the half-acre grounds.
