Ski Through the Solstice: A-Basin Extends Ski Season, Again

Just when you thought it was over…ski season gets another reprieve. Arapahoe Basin announced it will remain open for three bonus weekends in June (the 6-8, 13-15, and 20-22). The ski resort received 440 inches of snow this season, 47 of them in May. We've got all the details on skiing the summer solstice.

A-Basin will run the Black Mountain Express and Lenawee Mountain lifts from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the "summer ski" season. All 2013-14 passes, A-Basin Spring 2014 Pass, and all Vail Resorts season passes are valid (no additional charges, either). The terrain will be primarily top-to-bottom intermediate trails, and possibly some beginner runs. Ski and snowboard rentals will be available, but the Snowsports school is finito for the year.

It's not the first time the resort has extended its closing date. Many a Denverite has spent July 4 hitting the slopes (notably, in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, and 201l), and it's not impossible that A-Basin will add 2014 to the list. Given that the Colorado ski season started in mid-October this year, perhaps all y'all will be seeing a White Independence Day.
