Built at the request of a Princeton, N.J. family who wanted their garage to do something more useful than just serve as a "magnet for odds and ends," this sunny music room ranks right up there when it comes to nearly unrecognizable former carport renovations. In order to transform the "1960s kit-house long cabin" structure, local contractors at Pinneo Construction first added French doors to connect the interiors to a new outdoor living room, which takes the place of the driveway. The team also created a porch-like effect by extending the overhanging roof and supporting it with rustic, tree-branch posts.
Inside, the rooms are open and light-filled, with wood floors and trimming, glass doors, and original exposed beam ceilings. The homeowners' antiques collection was used to furnish the place, taking care to create cozy nooks for reading, and larger spaces for playing music. Houzz has the full gallery, plus a few more before-and-after shots, right this way.
