The Skinny: NYC architect Steven Harris—who made this year's AD100 and is currently overseeing the redo of Barney's department stores on Madison Avenue and in Beverly Hills—once designed this modern lake house in Bedford, New York (a.k.a. Martha Stewart country). Built on a lot that once held a small weekend retreat, Harris designed the house to complement the owner's museum-quality collection of midcentury modern furniture, which includes pieces by Eero Saarinen, George Nakashima, and Vladimir Kagan. When the lot, a rare parcel on Bedford's Blue Heron Lake, hit the market, the owners pounced, opting to tear down the existing structure and instead build Harris' designs, inspired largely by the architectural touchstones of the '50s and '60s. Philip Johnson's (oft replicated) Glass House inspired the home's floor to ceiling glass walls—well, that and the views of the neighboring 48-acre lake It's asking $7.5M, and no, the furniture is not included.
