Shots of '70s Rock Stars in Their Parents' Homes Are Too Cute

In 1971, LIFE Magazine assigned photographer John Olson to join some of the most famous musicians at the time as they return to their parents' houses, a journey that gave rise to these vintage photos of some truly intriguing homes. The most eccentric may be the Los Angeles residence of rocker Frank Zappa's parents (↑), with eggplant-colored walls that are in perfect harmony with Zappa's purply attire. Take a look through the whole series, and follow stars like Elton John and David Crosby into a time warp to the '70s, right this way.
