This year the Super Bowl will be held in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix with 227,000 residents that bills itself as "Arizona's antique capital." However, the 15 hotels in the vicinity of the NFL stadium are hardly enough for the estimated 700,000 fans that are expected to converge on the city this Sunday, when the Seattle Seahawks battle the New England Patriots. Luckily, local residents have stepped up to the task.
Sites like Airbnb and Homeaway are now awash in rental listings (many for homes that are clearly occupied the rest of the year) that run the gamut from the truly horrid to the luxuriously tacky. Yet they all have one thing in common: their ludicrous per-night price tags. Yearning for a dingy three-bedroom seven miles from the stadium? Better shell out $8K to rent it. Even NFL alums have gotten into the mix: fans can now stay in former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner's Phoenix abode for anywhere from $150K to $400K for the week.
