Come See John Legend's Cozily-Renovated NYC Apartment

The latest issue of Architectural Digest takes an exclusive look inside the New York City digs of R&B singer John Legend and his wife, model Chrissy Teigen. Located in a historic building on the border of Little Italy and NoLita, the intimate one-bedroom space was renovated in the last couple of years by Don Stewart, the same designer who worked on the couple's recently sold midcentury home in Los Angeles. And it shows. With its "dark, moody atmosphere," this Manhattan home theoretically couldn't be any further from their L.A. pad, which embraced a seamless transition to the sunny outdoors. Post Stewart's reno, though, the home ultimately exudes a similar vibe, marked by a mix of refined and rustic elements, earthy tones, delicate house plants, character-filled artwork, and duh, the dandy Yamaha piano.

In a video accompanying the cover story, the couple reveal a few key changes in the apartment overhaul. The kitchen, which Legend calls "one of the best things about the apartment," was originally super modern and white, but now enjoys rather graphic cabinetry designed by Stewart, an intricate, custom-made backsplash, bronze-clad island, and simply eye-popping brass-plated stools. And in the alcove with the piano, a painting by American artist Lynne Mapp Drexler jumps out of a wall of reclaimed wood, a feature that was also duplicated in the bedroom.
