We at Curbed are well versed in the art of the Australian extension. This one, by local firm Mitsuori Architects, adds nearly 3,000 square meters to a Victorian house in Melbourne to, according to the architects, serve the needs of a growing family. The two-story extension has an open plan and is separated from a rear garden by broad, sliding-glass doors that help blur the boundaries between indoor and out. Inside, a stairwell connects the extension to the upper floors in the main house, tying old and new together with natural materials and a subdued color palette.
