A Michael Graves-Designed Apartment From 1979 Is Sitting in Storage at the Brooklyn Museum

New, 1 comment

In 1979, Susan and John Reinhold, a wealthy couple living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, had the late postmodernist architect Michael Graves remodel their Central Park-bordering apartment. When they moved out in 1986, however, instead of allowing the apartment's new owners to renovate Graves' design out of existence (as has happened to so many interiors of this style), they had it dismantled and donated it to the Brooklyn Museum, where it has remained in storage ever since. It has never been publicly displayed, which is, to say the least, a shame.
