'Floating' Housing in China Looks Both Eerie and Beautiful

New, 4 comments

Built to appear as though they are floating, these new, stalwart apartment buildings—by award-winning British architect David Chipperfield—are actually set on an a preserved national wetland. Encompassing a whopping 127,000 square feet (11,800 square meters, to be precise), the Xixi Apartments are clad in a dark stone that gives them an eerily beautiful quality. Like buildings designed in the vernacular architectural language, these units sit atop heavy plinths, which adds to their fortress-like look.
