Location: Palisades, New York
Price: $2,049,000

Located just 25 minutes north of New York City, the Hudson River hamlet of Palisades, NY (once known as Snedens Landing) is a favorite retreat of artists and celebrities. On a list of notable residents that includes Al Pacino, Bill Murray, and Björk, one will also find Angelina Jolie Pitt, whose mother, Marcheline Bertrand moved there from L.A. in the '80s after splitting from actor Jon Voight. Along with her mother and brother, Jolie Pitt lived in a 1958-built midcentury modern home on two private acres. Also called "The Whitney House," the 4,088-square-foot residence marked by a high-pitched gabled roof and overhanging eaves has elite origins in itself: According to the listing, the house was "designed for a descendant of one of America's most important 'art' families..." (NYC's Whitney Museum of American Art, anyone?) Last sold just this past February for $1.2M, the house is now being flipped for $2.05M.

With huge windows and skylights in and around the soaring ceilings (the large great room reaches a maximum height of 30 feet!), the four-bedroom house receives top-notch natural light. The interiors are accented with tall stone walls and redwood, oak, and pine throughout. Though the current owner intended to restore period details (e.g. the railings on the second floor loft), there are also decidedly modern interventions, including one very-marble bathroom.
