Mexico City Campus Has a Fresh Take on the Traditional Quad

Designed by Enrique Norten, whose firm, TEN Arquitectos, has earned a name for itself with smart, inventively designed projects like New York's Hotel Americano, this new campus (over 55,000 square feet) for Centro University updates the campus quad concept with an amphitheater-style staircase that complements its more traditional cloister-like green space. Work by Dutch-born Mexico-based artist Jan Hendrix—elongated botanical patterns scrawled across broad central outdoor steps—helps enliven the campus, with its multi-story, metal-clad volumes.
