Being a cartographer in 2015 is probably not as exciting as it was in say, the 15th century, as almost the entire earth seems pretty well mapped by now. On the other hand, there are a lot more buildings on that earth, some of them quite large and confusing, and that may be the new frontier for 21st century mapmakers. As CityMetric reports, both Google and Apple are developing mapping products—for Google, a wearable backpack, and for Apple, an app called the "Indoor Survey App." And while figuring out where the concession stands in the Superdome is still not quite as enticing as guessing how North America is shaped, the is one new trend that could prove pretty useful.
