Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We'd love to see what you've got.
Location: Paradise Valley, Arizona
Price: $2,500,000
Conceived as a residence and private art gallery, the"Planar House" by noted American architect Steven Holl is what it sounds like: an incredible play on geometric planes that makes the 3,350-square-foot abode a sublime place to exhibit art and experience light. The interior, marked by copious windows of strategic shapes and positions, are sleek with some surprising soft touches. While all the walls are built from tilt-up concrete covered with Venetian plaster and all the floors are Terrazzo, one can find bamboo cabinetry in the open kitchen and cedar furnishings in the master bath.
Compared to some other "haute desert" escapes, the Planar House is a true oasis. The property features a 40-foot lap pool, accessible via a huge pivoting glass door, plus a cactus garden and rooftop deck at the end of a perforated Cor-Ten steel ramp. The 2005-built home won an AIA NY Merit Design Award in 2016 and was last listed two years ago with an ask of $2.4M (it ultimately sold for $2.1M.) Now returning on the market for $2.5M, the house looks mostly unchanged, save for an extra bedroom presumably converted from a portion of the intended gallery space.
