Snag an Updated I. M. Pei Townhouse in Chicago for $589K

A midcentury townhouse designed by architect I. M. Pei is up for grabs, and the first buyer to deliver a contract for $589,000 will be declared the winner. A string of the these modernist townhouses line Harper Avenue from 55th to 57th Streets in Hyde Park, but this listing is currently the only one available in this development. While not necessarily overly fancy, this townhouse does have updated appliances and has received other important updates like new windows, new bathrooms and a newer roof. And if you look close enough, one of the photos reveals an Easter Egg — a view of the University Apartments towers, which were also designed by I. M. Pei. The stoic, almost monolithic look may not appeal to everyone, but these townhouses do command a respectable price. This particular unit has not exchanged hands in years, but neighboring townhouses have sold in the high $300K to $500K range.
