This House Gets Its Energy From Its Owner's, Uh, Waste

New, 1 comment

Today is World Toilet Day, a day that raises aware for the more than 2.3 billion people worldwide who don't have access to safe, clean bathrooms. If you want to help, you can visit the Water Aid website.

And, while we're on the subject of toilets, here's a toilet that is doing more good than the average one. Located in rural Spain and built by a startup called PlanetEnergy, the "adapted septic system" helps to power the entire house by using bacteria and enzymes to speed up the breakdown of human waste, and capturing the methane gas that is produced. This one is only a demonstration facility, but it will be occupied by one of the company's cofounders and her partner, and they aim to show that it is feasible for regular houses too.
