This Capitol Hill Rowhouse Was Built By One of D.C.'s Most Prolific Architects

Charles Gessford is one of Washington, D.C.'s most prolific architects and was the most well-known architect in Capitol Hill in the late 19th century. The Maryland native built more houses in Capitol Hill from 1875 to 1995 than any other builder, each one more often than not square-cornered and with red pressed brick, stone trim, door transoms, and stained-glass windows. This original Gessford-designed rowhouse just landed on the Capitol Hill market, and while fully renovated, the abode still retains some of its original details, including its stained glass accents, exposed brick, and woodwork. Throughout, there are high-end, modern finishes and stunning architectural touches, which can be seen from the listing's coffered ceilings, recessed lighting, gourmet kitchen, marble flooring, and multiple fireplaces. This 1908-built listing also features a finished basement and a rear brick patio. With an asking price of $1.2 million, this rowhouse includes a total of three bedrooms and three bathrooms over 1,236-square-feet. The listing was last sold in May 2005 for $690,000 and has been on and off the market since January 2009.
