The Best Ski Towns to Invest in Real Estate, 2015 Edition

For the second year in a row, RealtyTrac has come out with a list of the Best Ski Resort Towns for Real Estate Investing. This year, the list looks at 18 ski towns (most of them smaller or lesser known) and 7 different criteria for determining where snow lovers should invest. The list considers factors like distance from the nearest airport, median home prices, the annual home price appreciation, and the quality of nearby skiing. And while popular towns like Crested Butte, Jackson Hole, Aspen, and Sun Valley all made the cut, the number one spot went to the relatively undiscovered town of Huntsville, UT. We have to admit, with an international airport under an hour, epic skiing at nearby Snowbasin and Powder Mountain, and one of the best old bars in ski country, Hunstville is (a cheap!) and attractive choice.

It also makes sense that Bellingham, WA and Sandy, UT cracked the top three in RealtyTrac's list. Both have plenty of skiing nearby and low median home prices under $300,000. But what's up with the Georgetown, CO ranking? Sure, Loveland and A-Basin aren't far from this I-70 town often used as a stopover to avoid the highway's insane traffic, but it can take a while to get to Beaver Creek and Wolf Creek Ski Areahttp://ski.curbed.com/tags/wolf-creek-ski-area is a whopping 226 miles away from Georgetown. That's a four hour drive in good weather, so someone at RealtyTrac needs to check out a map of Colorado.
