Curbed's Micro Week 2015 House of the Day run is dropping in square footage each day, until we've reached a truly tiny home that still embodies everything that makes a dwelling HOD-worthy. (Sorry, but tiny houses on flatbed trailers need not apply.) As always, we love tips.
Location: Southampton, N.Y.
Price: $1,500,000
House of the Day's Micro Week-themed race to the bottom of residential square footage started off in Pasadena, at a healthy 1,550 square feet. Today, we drop down to 1,200, but nearly triple in price. Yes indeed, folks, we are in the Hamptons.
The listing gallery for this Southampton cottage is shy on a lot of things, but an old rental page gives a more extensive, if drably photographed picture. According to Sotheby's associate broker Molly Ferrer, the home was once the "music building" for a much larger estate built in the late 1800s.
Sited on about half an acre with 150 feet of Wooley Pond frontage and a dock, this "one-and-a-half-story" house is mainly taken up by a great room with a cathedral ceiling, some beautiful exposed beams, built-in shelves, and a wood-burning fireplace. The home also has a basement, two bedrooms, and a screened-in porch.
