Adorable New Kids' Book Explores the Concept of Home

For her new book Home, illustrator and children's book author Carson Ellis focuses on all different kinds of nontraditional dwellings—the front cover alone features 21, including a sea shell, a barn, and a cobweb. Ellis' ink-and-gouache illustrations are accompanied with a sentence about each place's unique inhabitants.

Other highlights include a shoe-turned-home inspired by the nursery rhyme, and a rock band's tour bus modeled after that of the Decemberists, whose lead singer, Colin Meloy, is married to Ellis. Ellis herself appears more than once—she waves from the tour bus and paints in her art studio. The final spread shows Ellis in her country cottage, accompanied by the line "This is my home, and this is me."
