Drought Watch

With little snow in the forecast, it might be hard for Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts to stay open until the traditional mid-April close of the winter sports season. Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort announced its decision to close (temporarily) last Sunday, and snow accumulations in the Tahoe basin are currently at about 16% of normal. That being said, a spokeswoman for Heavenly Mountain Resort said that the Vail Resorts-operated Heavenly, Northstar, and Kirkwood all plan to stay open until their scheduled end of season dates.
