Punk Ode to Mies Van Der Rohe Is Exactly What It Sounds Like

Quell your fangirl squeals: here is the Mies van der Rohe post-punk song that no one ever asked for, but that the internet gave us anyway. Brought to our attention by a Twitter tipster, this music video is an abomination of good taste, the Barcelona chair, authentic German accents, and Powerpoint software. Sure, there have been other odes to Mies—David Chipperfield installed tree trunks in Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie, Google devoted a doodle to the Farnsworth House, and this office park could be mistaken for the Barcelona Pavilion—but, they all pale in comparison to musician Ted Kamp's slightly unhinged, but very enthusiastic, Mies van der Rohe dream sequence.

And, of course, the lyrics:

From the rumble of the war,
you saw that less was more.
You really loved that glass and steel,
and then you rocked that look and feel.
But then when the Nazis came to town,
your Bauhaus was going down.
You moved out to Illinois
where you became the wonder boy.

You started building 'cuz you're
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!

If you hate the ornament,
Our man Mies is heaven sent.
If you'd like some open space,
call on Mies to make your place.

Kluczynski, Dirksen, IBM
He's created all of them
Onto Seagram, Westmount Square

They all had something they call
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!

Separated earth and skies,
Innovated in highrise,
Overlayed in classic tones
He had to call it skin and bones.
Old Mies he died in '69,
but his building still will shine.
Take a spin on Lake Shore drive
you know that Mies is still alive.

He shines so brightly 'cuz he's
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe!

Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe.
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe.

Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe.
Mies, Mies, Van Der Rohe.
