Mount Aurora Skiland SKi Area in Fairbanks, Alaska, "the home of the farthest north chairlift in North America," is changing ownership. Anchorage-based tour company Alaska Skylar Travel, a tourism business that caters to visitors from China, reached a purchase agreement to buy Skiland. The fate of the area was under question with the pending retirement of the current owner. The prospective buyer still needs to work out agreements with area landowners and leaseholders before promising a 2015-2016 ski season, but the new owner has already shared plans to potentially expand the lodge for aurora viewing, and add a new chairlift and bunny slope with a rope tow.
