New Digital Manufacturing & Design Institute Showcases Chicago Industry's High-Tech Future

This morning, the highly anticipated new UI Labs Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (DMDII) opened on Chicago's Goose Island, a fast-rising tech hub. Like the new Method factory in the city's Pullman neighborhood, the new DMDII showcases the city's effort to reinvent its manufacturing base to better compete in a contemporary, high-tech world. Partially funded thanks to a $70 million federal grant, this new center for high-tech manufacturing and research, designed by Chicago's own Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, features 22,000 square feet of manufacturing floors, classrooms, offices and an open, town hall-style atrium.
