Located in the historic Rehder building in downtown Steamboat Springs, the Steamboat Art Museum just launched a capital campaign to raise an estimated $500,000 for renovations. Ski country museums can be big a draw to tourists these days (just ask the Aspen Art Museum), and Steamboat's campaign will allow the museum to expand into the former Antares Restaurant in the back of the building. This will double the museum's exhibition space, create an art research library, an artist workspace, and add a shipping and receiving area. The museum hopes to have the money raised and renovations completed by winter 2017.
