In the northern Portuguese town of Penafiel (population 15,552 as of 2011), local studio PROD architecture & design has given their client a delightful vacation home that is actually four for the price of one: a quartet of interconnected, patinated-pine-clad, gabled pavilions.

Fittingly built to accommodate a family of four, the breezy interiors are a mix of light-filled double-height spaces and rooms crowned by muscular timber ceiling beams. A series of outdoor terraces are also on offer, accessed via broad sliding glass walls that make the whole place a real indoor-outdoor dream. The gables also make for a few oddly shaped, but covetable spaces, like an under-roof library and office (↓). Ready for a vacation yet?
