Demonstrating incredible breadth, OFIS Architects, the Slovenian firm that recently designed a a python-like soccer stadium, just completed a startling conversion project, turning a traditional alpine barn in the bucolic village of Bohinjska Bistrica into a modern loft home. While the designers kept the barn's original floor plan, structural frame, porch, and lamp in tact, they completely covered the interior with local spruce, creating a minimalist but polished feel.

The airy dwelling, which also got new perforations on its facade, has an open-plan living, dining, and main sleeping space on the ground level, along with a kitchen, sauna, and storage area tucked behind a vertical planked wall. A hidden staircase leads to a guest bedroom upstairs. Designboom has the full gallery.
