Aspen's Iconic Skier's Chalet at Lift 1a Sells for $22 Million

In a move that no doubt signifies the changes to come at Aspen's Lift 1a base, the Aspen Times is reporting that the now defunct Skier's Chalet Lodge and Skiers Chalet Steakhouse has sold for $22 million. According to property records, the buyers also own Aspen's Molly Gibson Lodge and Hotel Aspen. Called a "portal to the past" by Powder Magazine, the Skier's Chalet was the first ski-specific hotel in Aspen and an iconic slopeside hot spot. But all that's about to change as the entire western base area of Ajax Mountain is set for a reboot; in order to hold the 2017 World Cup Finals, Aspen Skiing Co. has to build a new lift and redevelop the aging base with new facilities and lodging.
