Ideally, we'd all live in houses and apartments that were big enough to have a separate room for the kitchen. But it doesn't always work out that way, and sometimes the kitchen has to be part of the living room. It's not the end of the world. There are actually many very nice apartments with combined living room-kitchens. However, if that's really too much to bear, consider hiding the kitchen behind a folding wall, like architects dontDIY did with a building in Bulgaria. Does it make the room larger? No, it does not. Does it, in fact, draw attention to how tiny the kitchen is and possibly even necessitate it being even tinier? Perhaps. But, you know, out of sight, out of mind.
