A Staircase-Happy Australian Office Gets Employees Moving

New, 2 comments

For Medibank, the largest health insurance company in Australia, architecture studio HASSELL collaborated with a host of other local firms to design this open-plan new headquarters that centers on a series of climbing, swooping, colorful stairways and ramps. In addition to being a showpiece for the company, the idea behind the painted stairwells is to encourage employees to stay active during the workday and to move freely between the various types of workstations (26 kinds, to be precise) available to them, which include communal tables and standing desks, the healthy workspace du jour. There is also, naturally, a cycling ramp from street level that leads up to a bike storage area.
