Explaining the Drought: Why the West Has Been So Dry

Like any other publication who obsesses over the weather, Curbed Ski has been following the drought and its devastating effects for a while now. And while a lot is known about how the drought has affected ski country, why it's all happening has stirred up a lot of debate. So we're loving Outside Magazine's latest explainer by Daniel Swain, a PhD student in the Department of Earth System Science program at Stanford University. Instead of just bitching about the lack of moisture, Swain aims to tackle why a "ridiculously resilient ridge" has caused California's typical October-to-May "wet season" to dry up.
