This Zany Pavilion Is a Twisted Forest of Columns

When your town turns 300 years old, you should celebrate in style. To mark its tercentennial birthday, the city of Karlsruhe in Germany selected the firm J Mayer H to craft this dramatic Jubilee Pavilion to host celebratory performances and exhibitions. Visitors can also ascend stairs hidden within its forest of beams and columns to a viewing platform. The main attraction is the main stage, which is framed by soaring columns illuminated against the night sky. Even after the celebrations end, the party won't be over for the pavilion: it will be disassembled, transported, and re-used elsewhere.
