Location: Water Mill, New York
Price: $650,000 per season ($700,000 per year)

"The water can be experienced from essentially anywhere on the property," proclaims an amusing bit of broker-babble for this laid-back modern beach house in the Hamptons. With a facade of glass walls looking out to the Atlantic, a wrap-around second-floor terrace, and a heated infinity pool facing an inland bay, this four-bedroom vacation home might just cause an aquatic overdose. The ground-level sleeping area, for example, boasts a glass door three steps from the sand.

Designed by Hamptons architect Fred Stelle of Stelle Lomont Rouhani Architects, the 4,000-square-foot home is renting for $650K for the season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) or $700K for the whole year. Its crisp and clean interiors, including ample wood flooring and muted furnishings throughout, play up the dream of the ultimate calm, low-key retreat.
