Private Island Where Marilyn Monroe Partied Asks $11 Million

New, 3 comments

The tiny-but-luxurious Tavern Island, which was asking $12.9 million in 2012, is back with a reduced asking price of $10,995,000. The private island off the Connecticut coast features a tudor mansion, a caretakers cottage, a "tea house," a boathouse, a lap pool, three beaches, a staging area on the mainland with dock and garage, and a cannon. It also contains quite a bit of history, as rumor has it that the name was derived from the island's function as a speakeasy during Prohibition. It was owned in the 1960s by Broadway legend Billy Rose, who threw parties there attended by the likes of Marilyn Monroe.
