Perched above San Francisco Bay with uninterrupted views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the circa-'70s Garay Residence in Tiburon, California was already pretty blessed. But more recently, as long-time owners grew out of the existing space, they enlisted local firm Swatt Miers Architects to rebuild and extend the place, adding another 2,000 square feet to the roughly 3,200-square-foot home. The redesign process kept very little of the old house, but the outcome couldn't be more impressive.
While the original house has been transformed into a bedroom wing, the glassy new space protruding towards the pool introduces an open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area with astounding views (even on foggy days!) Dezeen has the full gallery.
