Over in the Bekasi, Indonesia, a suburb of Jakarta, Indonesian studio Atelier Riri has joined the unofficial worldwide competition for the best shipping container home with this 1,660-square-foot house they designed for a couple and their two children. Much of the upper floors, designated as "hobby spaces," were created from four colorful shipping containers, which are connected by stairs, ramps, and outdoor terraces. The stacked containers also form a central void, covered by a layer of wire mesh "roofing" that's supposed to reduce heat. For the architects, this home represents, as the project statement reads, "a new definition of contemporary tropical homes" in the country.
