The Durango City Council just passed a 60-day moratorium on building new condos in single-family neighborhoods. As the Durango Herald explains it, the City Council held a special session to pass the moratorium because the situation amounted to a loophole in the city's recently revised land-use code. The city's previous code did have a specific prohibition on condos in single-family neighborhoods, and it was an oversight that it didn't make it into the revised code. Southwest Colorado developers shouldn't plan on pouncing on Day 61, as the moratorium will likely be extended until amendments to the land-use code can be passed.
