It's now official: Beijing will be the first city to host both a summer and winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee had to make a tough choice between Beijing and its lack of snow or Almaty, Kazakhstan, a place few have heard of with little history putting on international events. But Beijing was always the favorite, having already proved it could pull off an Olympics and there being little tolerance for the open political discourse that ended bids from places such as Oslo and Stockholm. The ice events are planned for Beijing, but the snow events will be between 40 and 90 miles away. Wonder what the price tag will eventually be?
