While building a home on a sloping lot in Brisbane, Australian practice James Russell Architects changed the profile of their project with a streamlined exterior. Capped by a pair of white gabled roofs that run the length of the shoebox-shaped building, the Christian Street House, and its restrained material palette, give a little order and definition to the uneven terrain. The biggest accomplishment may be making the narrow space seem less cramped. The curtains wrapping the living and dining rooms seem tailor-made to catch the nearby ocean breeze, while the small strip of grass on the side of the home, decorated with vines, provides an intimate outdoor space.
