This Elevator Will Straight Up Take You to Space

New, 2 comments

When we say "you," of course, what we mean is "astronauts," but still: pretty cool. (And it could open up some space tourism possibilities down the road.) This elevator, for which Canadian space technology company Thoth Technology was just granted a United States patent, would deliver payloads and spacecraft 12 miles into the sky using pneumatically pressurized cells. Per Inhabitat, the elevator "would incorporate a series of flywheels to act as compressors which could adjust pressure within each cell to compensate for any bending."

We'll take their word for it.
