New Orleans' 'Renovation of the Year' Can Be Yours For $1M

We first scoped out this Irish Channel Creole Cottage on the Preservation Resource Center's 2015 Shotgun Tour. Recently, New Orleans Homes & Lifestyles magazine declared it the "Renovation of the Year." And now, this Washington Avenue neutral-toned beauty can be yours for $1,029,000. Flippers Aaron Taravella, a mortgage broker, and Rachel Hall Taravella, an architect and designer, used details from the original house in the renovation, like the original exterior door that is now a pantry door in the kitchen. They also salvaged old beams and some of the flooring from the original house. They added archways, and retrofitted a 19th-century church window to make a wine rack in the dining room. Other details include an ultra-modern bathtub and what is basically an outdoor living room. The 3,680 square-foot space has four bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms.
