Hyannis is about to get a lot more adventurous. The Catania Hospitality Group, owners of the Cape Codder Resort & Spa, have announced plans to build a 30,000-square-foot indoor water park as part of the Iyannough Road hotel's planned overhaul. Currently, the popular resort is home to an "existing 10,000-square-foot indoor wave pool, which is open to the public and also features 50- and 80-foot water slides and a 24-person whirlpool."
According to The Cape Cod Times, the 20,000-square-foot addition, to be housed under a retractable roof, will feature "two body slides, a 300-foot "lazy river" with waterfalls and rapids, a spray deck for kids and a water-play area for toddlers." The completed 30,000-square-foot indoor water park is scheduled to open next summer, with construction limited to weekdays. That's right, the current wave pool, beloved year-round by both tourists and locals, will remain open and no work will take place during holidays, school vacation weeks or when large conferences are booked. In addition to the aquatic makeover, "the resort is also planning to upgrade guest rooms, bathrooms, common areas and function facilities and construct new "family suites" to accommodate up to seven guests." Christopher Adams, Chief of Staff for the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, told the Times that the new water park, along with Cape Cod Inflatable Park in West Yarmouth and the Adventure Park at Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, are signs that the beachy Cape is evolving into an "adventure travel destination."
