In the land of sprawling (and we do mean sprawling) ranches and offbeat Spanish Revival houses sits this thoroughly modern gem by Austin, Texas, studio Kopicki Design, which marries rugged timber and a clean-lined silhouette to impressive effect. Though the exterior is rather dark and brooding, the interiors of this family home are quite airy, and natural light pours into the whitewashed spaces via sliding glass doors and from a glassed-in central courtyard. It doesn't hurt that, according to these photos, the open-plan living spaces are chock full of finishes and furnishings that are at once modern and evince a real warm.
